Psychology@RustenVrede is a group practice established by Dr Carin Bester and Dr Vanessa Marais at Optima Rustenvrede Psychiatric Hospital in Stellenbosch. The team consists of five permanent and two part-time Clinical Psychologists. We provide psychotherapy to both in- and out-patients at our psychology rooms.

We offer psychotherapy to families, parents, adults, teenagers, children and couples. Our services cover a broad range of psychological difficulties, some of which include:

Dr Carin Bester
Carin is touched by the journey of each person she work with. Therapeutically, she aims to create a mindful space for each person to find meaning, grow and succeed in personal transformation. Carin considers personal transformation a life task for all people and the foundation of the work that she shares with each patient as you work together in therapy.

Natasha Smit
Dr Vanessa Marais
Over the years, Vanessa has worked predominantly with all forms of anxiety in adults, as well as trauma, oncology, depression and chronic pain. Her biggest interest lies in working with cancer patients, especially breast cancer. She recently finished her PhD in holistic therapeutic interventions with breast cancer patients.

Carla Nortje
As a therapist, Carla values the bravery in which it takes to seek therapy. She aims to build genuine and trusting relationships with her patients and focuses on fostering growth, self-exploration and healing.

Natasha Smit
Natasha is a Clinical Neuropsychologist who trained in diagnostic neuro-psychology of neurological / neuro-developmental, psychiatric and other medical disorders affecting cognition and behaviour. She also has a special interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As a psychologist, she strongly believes in empathically collaborating with her patients in every part of the treatment process.

Stacey Bopp
Stacey is a clinical psychologist who has a special interest in working with relational difficulties, anxiety, depression, addiction and eating disorders. As a psychologist, Stacey values that each individual is unique and thus believes in taking a holistic and person-centered approach to therapy. Stacey believes in walking with and guiding her clients in a process of healing because its not about the destination but the journey that matters.
